Jazz On Vinyl Vol. 3 – Modern Energy Jazz
Dominique Klatte hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt seine musikalischen Künstler mit Hilfe analoger Aufnahmetechnik auf Schallplatte zu bannen, keine digitalen Helferlein im vollkommen analogen Signalweg, die dieses Vorhaben vereinfachen könnten. Alle Musiker müssen gleichzeitig am gleichen Ort spielen. Das erhöht die Konzentration der Künstler wie die des Aufnehmenden. Klatte hat kein eigenes Studio, die Aufnahmen finden in Räumen statt, die zur Musik und den Instrumenten passen, aber es sind oft Räume, die den Musikern bekannt sind und in denen sie sich wohl fühlen. Eine nachträgliche Bearbeitung der Aufnahmen findet nicht statt, wenn es nicht gepasst hat, wieder zurück auf Anfang, für alle. Das kann man nicht beliebig oft machen, die Zeit drängt, daher die hohe Konzentration.
Im Dezember 2019 erschien dann Volume Three – Modern Energy Jazz, auf Vinyl limitiert auf 500 Stück. Eine mitreißende musikalische Tour, äußerst spannend anzuhören und durchaus musikalisch experimentell. Auch diese Aufnahmen entstanden wieder im Wohnzimmer der Architekten Frisch/Kruppa, im Pfarrsaal Erding/Klettham, in der Stadtbücherei Erding und im Studio München – Manfred Mildenberger. Volume Three hat auch wieder eine Vielzahl von Künstlern zu bieten: Das Leo Betzl Trio (LBT) mit Klavier, Kontrabass und Schlagzeug, das Quartett »Fainschmitz« aus Wien mit Sax, Megaphon, Trompete, Gitarre und Kontrabass; das Quartett »Cheraleen & Die Goldstücke« mit Vocal, Querföte, Samples, Piano, Talkbox Moog, Schlagzeug, Percussion und Kontrabass und das Trio »St. Øhl« mit Vocal, Querflöte, Kontrabass und Schlagzeug.
Die Aufnahmen mit dem Leo Betzl Trio waren schon eine Besonderheit dieser Aufnahme ist, alle drei Musiker (Flügel, Drums, Bass) waren in getrennten Räumen untergebracht. Eine ungewohnte Situation, nur einen Musiker am Flügel spielen zu sehen. Die drei haben sich über Video sehen können und hatten natürlich Kopfhörer auf. Als Raumklang gab es nur den sauberen Studio Sound, sehr direkt und intensiv Jetzt klingt das neue Motto "Modern Jazz & Techno" für einige Jazzer bestimmt schon etwas abwegig. Nein, ich darf Sie beruhigen, es wird eine besondere Reise in andere Welten. Mich persönlich hat auch die Herausforderung gereizt, einen (verkannten) besonderen Musikstil in dieses Format einzubetten. Techno klingt immer etwas brachial, gemeint ist hier eigentlich das große Feld der elektronischen Musik, die akustisch von hervorragenden Jazz Musikern umgesetzt wird. LBT kann man auch auf YouTube bewundern, hören Sie mal hinein, ein Erlebnis. Das Trio St Øhl aus Starnberg/München hat in der Stadtbücherei Erding gespielt, die Aufnahmen sind unwahrscheinlich kraftvoll. Um den Klang des Trios richtig einfangen zu können, musste es noch einmal die Stadtbücherei sein, die für mich mit Raumgröße und Dämpfung das Optimum dargestellt hat. Aufgrund dieser Erfahrung mit St Øhl habe ich mich auch dazu entschlossen, das Vol.3 Motto in "Modern High Energy Jazz" um zu benennen. Dieser Titel wird allen Beteiligten Musikern absolut gerecht und trifft den Nagel auf den Kopf. Das Quartett Fainschmitz aus Wien hat ein sehr schönes interessantes Stück für Vol.3 eingespielt. Die Aufnahmen haben wir im großen Pfarrsaal St. Vinzens in Klettham gemacht. Die Instrumentierung Saxophon/Klarinette/Megaphon, Kontrabass, Gitarre und Trompete/Flügelhorn, war so auch noch nicht bei Jazz On Vinyl. Klasse Musiker, sehr vielseitig und richtig nette Burschen, super Session. "Cheraleen & Die Goldstücke" Die Aufnahmen mit "Cheraleen & Die Goldstücke" waren ein Träumchen, so ist es, wenn man mit hervorragenden Musikern arbeiten darf. Die Band hat sich ohne Wenn und Aber ins Zeug gelegt. Es wurden sogar noch wichtige Termine verschoben, nur um an diesem Tag, das allerbeste Ergebnis, ohne Zeit Druck zu bekommen. Für mich war auch ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis, die vielen elektronischen Effekte/Sounds der Band, mit meiner analogen Arbeitsweise zu verbinden. Es ist eine Klangreise mit wunderschöner Musik geworden. (Dominique Klatte)

Dominique Klatte has set himself the goal of capturing his musical artists on disc using analogue recording technology, no digital helpers in the completely analogue signal path that could simplify this project. All musicians must play at the same place at the same time. This increases the concentration of the artists as well as that of the recorder. Klatte doesn't have his own studio, the recordings take place in rooms that suit the music and the instruments, but these are often rooms that the musicians are familiar with and in which they feel comfortable. A subsequent processing of the recordings does not take place if it did not fit, back to the beginning, for everyone. You can't do that as often as you like, time is short, hence the high level of concentration.
In December 2019 Volume Three - Modern Energy Jazz was released, limited to 500 copies on vinyl. A rousing musical tour, extremely exciting to listen to and definitely musically experimental. These recordings were also made in the living room of the architects Frisch/Kruppa, in the parish hall in Erding/Klettham, in the public library in Erding and in the Munich studio – Manfred Mildenberger. The recordings with the Leo Betzl Trio were a special feature of this recording, all three musicians (grand piano, drums, bass) were housed in separate rooms. An unusual situation to see only one musician playing the grand piano. The three were able to see each other via video and of course they had headphones on. The only surround sound was the clean studio sound, very direct and intense. Now the new motto "Modern Jazz & Techno" certainly sounds a bit absurd to some jazz musicians. No, I can reassure you, it will be a special journey into other worlds. Personally, I was also attracted by the challenge of embedding a (misunderstood) special style of music in this format. Techno always sounds a bit brute, what is actually meant here is the large field of electronic music, which is acoustically implemented by excellent jazz musicians. LBT can also be admired on YouTube, listen to it, an experience. The Trio St Øhl from Starnberg/Munich played in the public library Erding, the recordings are unbelievably powerful. In order to be able to capture the sound of the trio properly, it had to be the city library again, which represented the optimum for me with room size and damping. Because of this experience with St Øhl, I also decided to rename the Vol.3 motto "Modern High Energy Jazz". This title does justice to all musicians involved and hits the nail on the head. The Quartet Fainschmitz from Vienna has recorded a very nice and interesting piece for Vol.3. We took the pictures in the large parish hall of St. Vinzens in Klettham. The instrumentation saxophone/clarinet/megaphone, double bass, guitar and trumpet/flugelhorn was also not on Jazz On Vinyl before. Great musicians, very versatile and really nice guys, great session. "Cheraleen & Die Goldstück" The recordings with "Cheraleen & Die Goldstück" were a dream, that's what it's like when you're allowed to work with excellent musicians. The band gave it their all without any ifs or buts. Important dates were even postponed just to get the very best result that day without any time pressure. It was also a very special experience for me to combine the many electronic effects/sounds of the band with my analog working methods. It has become a sound journey with beautiful music.
