Jazz On Vinyl Vol. 5 – Carolyn Breuer & Andrea Hermenau
Dominique Klatte hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt seine musikalischen Künstler mit Hilfe analoger Aufnahmetechnik auf Schallplatte zu bannen, keine digitalen Helferlein im vollkommen analogen Signalweg, die dieses Vorhaben vereinfachen könnten. Alle Musiker müssen gleichzeitig am gleichen Ort spielen. Das erhöht die Konzentration der Künstler wie die des Aufnehmenden. Klatte hat kein eigenes Studio, die Aufnahmen finden in Räumen statt, die zur Musik und den Instrumenten passen, aber es sind oft Räume, die den Musikern bekannt sind und in denen sie sich wohl fühlen. Eine nachträgliche Bearbeitung der Aufnahmen findet nicht statt, wenn es nicht gepasst hat, wieder zurück auf Anfang, für alle. Das kann man nicht beliebig oft machen, die Zeit drängt, daher die hohe Konzentration.
Dominique Klatte’s neuestes Album »Volume Five – Carolyn Breuer & Andrea Hermenau«, veröffentlicht Ende Juni 2021, hat er im „Bürgerhaus Unterföhring“ und im „Fred und Irmgard Rauch Saal“ aufgenommen. Volume Five hat eine limitierte Auflage von 1.000 Stück.
Mit Vol.5 präsentiert Jazz On Vinyl zwei mehrfach prämierte Münchner Power Frauen: Die Saxofonistin Carolyn Breuer, die mit vielen eigenen Projekten wie „Four Seasons Of Life“ oder „Shoot The Piano Player“ international für Aufsehen sorgte und die Pianistin/Sängerin Andrea Hermenau, die durch Bands wie „Etna“ oder „Die Drei Damen“ bekannt wurde und in diesem Jahr Trägerin des Kulturförderpreises Musik der Stadt München ist. Auf ihrer gemeinsamen neuen Platte sind sie sowohl im Duo, als auch im Quartett zu hören, hier durch eine hervorragende Rhythmusgruppe ergänzt mit Henning Sieverts am Kontrabass und Christian Lettner am Schlagzeug. So wird noch ein weiterer Raum des interaktiven, energievollen Zusammenspiels eröffnet.
Die Einspielungen sind in der Musikschule Rottach-Egern (Fred & Irmgard Rauch Saal) und im großen Saal des Bürgerhaus Unterföhring entstanden. Der trockene „Studio Klang“ in Rottach-Egern gibt den beiden Duo Stücken „White Marble“ und „Mimo is back“ eine ganz besondere direkte Note. Auch wenn man es gewohnt ist, ein Sopran Saxophon mit tragendem Hall zu hören, kommt bei „White Marble“ in diesem Setting die sehr exakte und virtuose Spielweise von Carolyn Breuer wunderbar zum Vorschein. Die zweite Nummer begeistert (unter anderem) durch die feine Stimme und einem fantastischem Scatting von Andrea Hermenau.
Das Breuer-Hermenau Duo bzw. Quartett hat den riesigen Saal in Unterführung mit Drive, Energie und knisternder Spannung gefüllt und zum Leben erweckt. Trotz der Größe ist der Hall Anteil ganz dezent dazu gemischt und schweißt den Klang zusammen. Zu erwähnen ist auch, dass alle Stücke Eigenkompositionen der Musikerinnen sind, die (wie immer) live und ohne Schnitt auf die A 807 gespielt wurden. Das war für die Musiker*innen eine ganz neue ungewohnte Erfahrung, die bravourös gemeistert wurde. (Dominique Klatte)

Dominique Klatte has set himself the goal of capturing his musical artists on disc using analogue recording technology, no digital helpers in the completely analogue signal path that could simplify this project. All musicians must play at the same place at the same time. This increases the concentration of the artists as well as that of the recorder. Klatte doesn't have his own studio, the recordings take place in rooms that suit the music and the instruments, but these are often rooms that the musicians are familiar with and in which they feel comfortable. A subsequent processing of the recordings does not take place if it did not fit, back to the beginning, for everyone. You can't do that as often as you like, time is short, hence the high level of concentration.

With Vol.5, Jazz On Vinyl presents two award-winning Munich power women: the saxophonist Carolyn Breuer, who caused a stir internationally with many of her own projects such as "Four Seasons Of Life" or "Shoot The Piano Player", and the pianist/singer Andrea Hermenau , which became known through bands such as "Etna" or "Die Drei Damen" and this year is the recipient of the Music Culture Prize of the City of Munich. On their new record they can be heard both as a duo and as a quartet, complemented here by an excellent rhythm section with Henning Sieverts on double bass and Christian Lettner on drums. This opens up another space for interactive, energetic interaction.
The recordings were made in the Rottach-Egern Music School (Fred & Irmgard Rauch Hall) and in the large hall of the Unterföhring community center. The dry "studio sound" in Rottach-Egern gives the two duo pieces "White Marble" and "Mimo is back" a very special direct note. Even if you're used to hearing a soprano saxophone with a sustaining reverberation, Carolyn Breuer's very precise and virtuoso playing style comes to the fore wonderfully in "White Marble" in this setting. The second number inspires (among other things) with the fine voice and a fantastic scattering by Andrea Hermenau.
The Breuer-Hermenau duo and quartet filled the huge hall in the underpass with drive, energy and crackling excitement and brought it to life. Despite the size, the reverberation is mixed in very subtly and welds the sound together. It should also be mentioned that all the pieces are the musicians' own compositions, which (as always) were played live and without editing on the A 807. This was a completely new and unusual experience for the musicians, which was mastered brilliantly. (Dominique Klatte)
