Jazz On Vinyl Vol. 6 – Leo Betzel Trio – Swing on Vinyl
Dominique Klatte hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt seine musikalischen Künstler mit Hilfe analoger Aufnahmetechnik auf Schallplatte zu bannen, keine digitalen Helferlein im vollkommen analogen Signalweg, die dieses Vorhaben vereinfachen könnten. Alle Musiker müssen gleichzeitig am gleichen Ort spielen. Das erhöht die Konzentration der Künstler wie die des Aufnehmenden. Klatte hat kein eigenes Studio, die Aufnahmen finden in Räumen statt, die zur Musik und den Instrumenten passen, aber es sind oft Räume, die den Musikern bekannt sind und in denen sie sich wohl fühlen. Eine nachträgliche Bearbeitung der Aufnahmen findet nicht statt, wenn es nicht gepasst hat, wieder zurück auf Anfang, für alle. Das kann man nicht beliebig oft machen, die Zeit drängt, daher die hohe Konzentration.
„Explosive künstlerische Energie und solistische Experimentierfreude ist nur ein Teil des Münchener Leo Betzel Trios. In Ihrem jungen Programm „MAKE KIN“ (ENJA Records) wird ein rein akustisch erzeugter Techno von lyrisch bis industriell gespielt. Zwei äußerst interessante Stücke aus diesem Genre sind auch auf Jazz on Vinyl Vol.3 zu hören.
Für das Label haben die drei Musiker einen Ausflug zurück zu den Wurzeln des Jazz angetreten. Eine Herzensangelegenheit, die in der Spielfreude des Trios mitreißend hörbar wird. Liebhaber des Swing der 30er /40er Jahre kommen voll auf Ihre Kosten. Bemerkenswert ist, dass alle 7 Titel für diese Produktion von den Musikern geschrieben wurden und hier das erste Mal „stilgerecht“ auf Vinyl vorgestellt werden.
Die ersten drei Titel sind im Jazz Club Unterfahrt, der weit über die Grenzen Bayerns bekannt ist und vielen Musikern eine hervorragende Bühne bietet, entstanden. Die guten akustischen Verhältnisse sind über die Jahre kontinuierlich gewachsen und geben der Aufnahme das unverfälschte Club- Feeling mit.
Die nächsten vier Titel wurden im Studio von Manfred Mildenberger aufgenommen, welches einen fast schon intimen „Wohnzimmer“ Klang widerspiegelt. Ein Sound, der mit unglaublicher Direktheit und Nähe den Zuhörer in seinen Bann zieht.
Wie gewohnt, kommt nur reine Analogtechnik zum Einsatz. Die Mikrofone von Neumann, AKG und HRRM sind in beiden Settings identisch. Der Flügel und das Schlagzeug haben bei den letzten vier Stücken, um den Bass herum, die Seiten gewechselt.“ (Dominique Klatte)

Dominique Klatte has set himself the goal of capturing his musical artists on disc using analogue recording technology, no digital helpers in the completely analogue signal path that could simplify this project. All musicians must play at the same place at the same time. This increases the concentration of the artists as well as that of the recorder. Klatte doesn't have his own studio, the recordings take place in rooms that suit the music and the instruments, but these are often rooms that the musicians are familiar with and in which they feel comfortable. A subsequent processing of the recordings does not take place if it did not fit, back to the beginning, for everyone. You can't do that as often as you like, time is short, hence the high level of concentration.

The three musicians have taken a trip back to the roots of jazz for the label. An affair of the heart, which becomes rousingly audible in the trio's joy of playing. Lovers of swing from the 30s and 40s will get their money's worth. It is remarkable that all 7 titles for this production were written by the musicians and are presented here for the first time "in style" on vinyl. The first three titles were created in the Jazz Club Unterfahrt, which is known far beyond the borders of Bavaria and offers many musicians an excellent stage. The good acoustic conditions have grown continuously over the years and give the recording the unadulterated club feeling. The next four tracks were recorded in Manfred Mildenberger's studio, which reflects an almost intimate "living room" sound. A sound that captivates the listener with incredible directness and closeness. As usual, only pure analogue technology is used. The microphones from Neumann, AKG and HRRM are identical in both settings. The grand piano and the drums changed sides around the bass in the last four tracks.” (Dominique Klatte)
